Your environment, habits, food choices, and the effects of technological gadgets can all reduce  your vitality, affect your quality of sleep,  make you feel anxious or have difficulty making decisions. Here are 7 simple actions that could make you feel more effective and energised.

  1. Eat some protein, such as meat, fish, eggs, nuts, seeds, tofu or cottage cheese at each meal or snack to avoid blood sugar drops which place demands on  your adrenal glands and can create cravings for carbs and sugar fixes . Include eggs, kippers,  organic plain yoghurt or nuts/seeds with your breakfast.
  2. Reduce electromagnetic pollution at night to keep your feel-good

A corded phone beside your bed won't interfere with your sleep patterns

factors in balance and make your sleep more refreshing . Turn mobile phones and wi-fi off, and switch iphones to flight mode – otherwise they act as a phone mast bouncing  calls for other people during the night. Put a corded phone beside your bed – base units of cordless phones emit stress-inducing and hormone disrupting radiation constantly.

  3. Drink filtered water at regular intervals. A dehydrated body is stressed! Filter jugs are effective and produce cleaner water than that from plastic bottles. Try increasing your intake by drinking a glass of water while waiting for the kettle to boil for tea or coffee. Click here for details of  under-sink water filters.
  4. Get some daylight and fresh air every day- even if it’s for 10 minutes. Let the sunlight soak into your face and any unexposed skin for a few minutes, especially in winter, to create vitamin D to help keep your immune system strong and to boost your energy reserves.
  5. Take vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) as a supplement in drop or capsule form. It’s essential for keeping your bones and teeth strong, as well as supporting your immune system and may have a beneficial effect on your mood. It is created in the skin when it is exposed to sunlight. Most people in the UK are deficient due to the short days in winter. Children nowadays tend not to play outdoors so much. The elderly are at risk too, especially if they are housebound. High quality brands I  particularly like are Higher Nature, Regenerative Nutrition, Biocare, Nutrigold and Metabolics.
  6. Breathing into your abdomen releases tension and calms the nervous system. When you are busy and stressed you can forget to do this – so write yourself a reminder and put it somewhere prominent. If you’re exhausted after a day’s work, recover  by spending a few minutes doing relaxation and deep breathing – especially effective done to relaxing music.
  7. Take regular breaks from your computer to give your eyes a rest and do some stretches to stimulate your circulation and oxygen flow to your brain to help you think better. Keep a crystal,  such as smoky quartz, near your computer to absorb electro-smog. Cleanse weekly by holding under running water.
